The GoldenGate TDM software platform provides guaranteed capture, routing, transformation, delivery, and verification of transactional data across heterogeneous environments in real time.
GoldenGate's TDM platform consists of decoupled components that can be configured to enable a variety of solutions for high availability/disaster tolerance and real-time data integration. Unlike architectures that implement a tight "process-to-process" coupling, GoldenGate TDM's decoupled architecture allows each component to perform its tasks independently of the others, while also enabling heterogeneity between source and target. Its core components include: GoldenGate Capture, GoldenGate Trail Files, GoldenGate Delivery, and GoldenGate Manager.
How the TDM Technology Works:
GoldenGate Capture - GoldenGate Capture resides with the source database and looks for new transactional activity that occurs. Capture reads the result of insert, update, and delete operations by directly accessing the database's transaction (redo) logs, and then immediately captures that new data for distribution. GoldenGate Capture moves only the committed transactions (intermediate activities and rolled-back operations are filtered out), which not only reduces infrastructure load but also eliminates potential data inconsistencies. Further optimization can be achieved with optional features including transaction grouping and compression.
GoldenGate Trail Files - Trail Files contain the changed data operations in a transportable, platform-independent universal data format. Trail Files reside on the source and/or target server but exist outside of the databases to ensure improved reliability, heterogeneity, and minimal risk of data loss. In the event of any type of outage at the source and/or target systems, the Trail Files contain the most recent changed data up to the point of the outage, ready to apply that data once the systems are back online again. This architecture minimizes impact to the source system, because no additional tables or multiple queries to the database are required to support the Capture processes. GoldenGate Capture reads once, then immediately moves the captured data to the external Trail File for delivery to the target(s).
GoldenGate Delivery - GoldenGate Delivery takes the new, changed data transactions from the latest Trail File and applies that data to the target database using native SQL for that RDBMS. Delivery can be made to any ODBC compliant database. The Delivery component applies each data transaction in the same order as it was committed and within the same transactional context as it was at the source, to ensure consistency and referential integrity at the target. GoldenGate Delivery uses a number of techniques to optimize the application of transactional data to target databases.
GoldenGate Manager - GoldenGate Manager gives customers control of the GoldenGate processes at each node. It provides a variety of administrative, housekeeping, and reporting functions for those processes.
A significant advantage of GoldenGate's Transactional Data Management (TDM) technology is the ability to support a wide variety of database, operating system, and hardware platforms. This gives our customers tremendous flexibility for solution implementations, and longer term, allows them to easily accommodate changing infrastructures.
