Publication Date: June 2007

Abstract: "Live Reporting in the Emerging Real-Time Enterprise" presents the results of a survey of Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG) members conducted in May 2007. The survey and this report were produced by Unisphere Research (publishers of Database Trends and Applications), and sponsored by GoldenGate Software.
Real-time or "Live" Reporting - the ability to see and analyze events around the business as they are happening - has been the dream of executives and industry leaders for years. Many organizations have spent vast sums of money in pursuit of real-time reporting capabilities but with mixed results. And for many mid-to-smaller size companies, the costs of achieving real-time views of the business have been too prohibitive.
This survey revealed that companies are challenged to manage more real-time data coming out of their applications. And many companies are not just seeking to view and manage data that is less than one hour old, but even just a few seconds old.
Key findings in this 14-page report include:
- More than one-third of organizations now require reporting of some data on a real-time basis, meaning that it is no more than a few seconds old.
- Most reporting comes from multiple data sources. Most organizations tap their ERP and enterprise systems for reporting data, and use the tools included with these applications for reporting.
- Close to 6 out of 10 organizations are suffering from server performance degradation as a result of end users running reports against these live production environments.
- More than half of the organizations surveyed have data warehouses - but few have been able to deploy these environments to offload reporting requirements.
- More than 4 out of 10 enterprises have or are considering moving reporting functions to dedicate servers.
Learn more about this survey, the trends and key findings revealed, and consider how your organization compares to the results and challenges reported by many of the respondents.
