GoldenGate Software, a provider of transactional data management solutions, has announced support for the latest HP Integrity NonStop server platform, based on the 64-bit Intel Itanium 2 processor. According to the company, it is the first commercial server than can scale to more than 4000 processors. "We've had a long-lasting relationship with HP and this is a significant advancement in performance," Sami Akbay, senior director of marketing at GoldenGate, told 5 Minute Briefing during a private interview. "Our customers are very interested in moving to Itanium because it offers such a significant performance increase."

According to Akbay, GoldenGate already has a sizeable customer base on the HP NonStop platform. "HP NonStop is very prominent in the mission-critical, high-end processing applications used in health and finance," he said. "That also happens to be our sweet spot as providers of transactional data management." Thus, customers who are migrating to the Itanium servers are going to find this very useful, he noted.

"Typically, someone who has NonStop has a primary server, which processes all of their business transactions and, for disaster tolerance and high-availability, a secondary server," Akbay continued. "The primary is used for business transactions and does all the work while the secondary server, more or less, sits there counting everything that happens on the primary. It's only brought online if the primary server fails," he said. GoldenGate enables companies to utilize what is called an active-active configuration. This enables both the primary system and the secondary system to process business transactions.

"This significantly reduces the cost per transaction because, suddenly, you have twice the processing power as opposed to one machine doing all the work and the second one sitting there," Akbay said. "This enhances both performance and availability, and if one of those systems fails, the second one will simply continue processing the business transactions." GoldenGate says it will continue to participate in HP's Early Adopter Program (EAP) in order to deliver solutions that support HP technologies as they become generally available. "We want to allow customers to get as much value out of HP NonStop as possible," Akbay related. For more information, click here
